Becoming Beloved Community Lenten Journey

Lent begins with Ash Wednesday, February 14. During this season we are offering an online opportunity to gather as Beloved Community and deepen our connections with one another.
We will use the book, Were You There: Lenten Reflections on the Spirituals, by the Reverend Dr. Luke Powery as the springboard for our discussions. Powery is Dean of Duke University Chapel and Professor of Homiletics and African and African American Studies at Duke.
The book can be ordered online or through your favorite independent bookstore. Each day of Lent contains a list of suggested biblical readings, the text of a particular spiritual, a short reflection and a brief prayer. It may deepen your appreciation of the spiritual to find a recording/video of it online and listen to it as a meditation.
Each Wednesday in Lent we will have an online discussion about the week’s readings (see reading list below). Read for each date ahead of time to be prepared for the conversation. Powery starts the journey on Ash Wednesday, but we will be starting one week later and play catch-up the first week. On Wednesday, March 27, (Wednesday of Holy Week), we will provide a labyrinth to walk in All Saints’ Hall from 6 – 8 pm. Our walk in the labyrinth is analogous to our journey towards beloved community. Register here for the Zoom online conversations.
