Youth Confirmation
What is Confirmation?
Confirmation is the rite in which candidates make a mature public reaffirmation of their faith and receive strength from the Holy Spirit through prayer and the laying on of hands by a bishop. It is the time where students start taking ownership of their faith journey, which parents, godparents, and/or grandparents started them on at their baptism.
The Confirmation process is meant to prepare students to make the decision to continue their faith journey in the Episcopal Church. This is when they stand and say that this is their faith journey that they wish to continue.
We support a student’s decision, and are happy to talk about what it might mean to be ready or what it might look like to wait.
What is our Confirmation process?
Beginning in the fall and ending in the spring of their 8th grade year, students interested in Confirmation participate in an immersive experience that allows them to grow in faith and love, and deepens their understanding of what it means to be Christian and Episcopalian. Registration is required.
The process includes:
- Confirmation Classes – Students are asked to attend 12 of 15 classes at 10 am on Sunday mornings.
- Fall Family Faith Talks – Families are asked to attend 2 Family Faith Talks together.
- Spring Service Projects – Students are asked to participate in 2 outreach projects.
- Serve on a Worship/Ministry Team – Students are asked to participate in worship by joining a worship or ministry team. (Acolytes, Lectors, Chalice Bearers, Ushers, and Altar Guild)
