Lux Perpetua: A Choral Orchestral Concert
Lux Perpetua: A Choral-Orchestral Concert is a program that brings together the Christ Church Choir, vocal soloists, string orchestra, and organ in a musical celebration. The title references the phrase lux perpetua, or “light perpetual,” taken from the traditional requiem mass, reflecting the central piece on the program, Dan Locklair’s Requiem. Locklair is a contemporary North Carolina composer, residing in Winston-Salem, who has made a great impact on the world of American sacred music. His Requiem is an extended multi-movement work filled with longing and rich harmony, which will provide a meaningful space for reflection on those we have lost and the promise of a heavenly home as we approach All Saints’ Day. The other pieces on the program, by composers of the 20th and 21st centuries, also express the foretaste of heavenly glory suggested by “light perpetual.” The neo-Romantic musical language of the music could be described as warm, lush, and radiant, almost as though the sound were shimmering before your eyes. I hope you can join us for what promises to be a beautiful and inspiring evening. Admission is free and open to the public.
