Resources and Education
Christ Church recognizes that wellness is a journey and a way of being, rather than a destination. As such, we provide a variety of wellness classes, workshops, and presentations for parishioners and visitors of all ages. These informational and experiential activities are aimed at enhancing holistic wellness knowledge and practices. Past topics have included suicide prevention, grief education, the navigation of family dynamics, alcohol and drug education, mindfulness activities, and parenting matters. Christ Church is deeply committed to providing bountiful offerings around the subject of wellbeing and care.

Therapy Services
Provided Mondays – Thursdays, 9 am – 4:30 pm
Counseling services are available to Christ Church members (adults and teens; referrals to child therapists are available), and to the Christ Church Preschool staff. Counseling services are provided free of charge. There is a session limit of 16 counseling appointments.
Our therapists offer counseling to address a variety of concerns, including anxiety, depression, anger, stress, peer/family relationships, work-life balance, insomnia, holistic wellness, life transitions, family changes, behavior and school concerns, self-esteem, grief and loss, and communication issues. Counseling services are available at the church or by telehealth, and are provided by Masters-level, licensed therapists Alex Bacon and Amy Styers Bissette.
Alex received her Master of Social Work (MSW) from Smith College School for Social Work in Northampton, MA, and her undergraduate degree from Davidson College. Amy earned her Master of Social Work (MSW) from UNC-Chapel Hill, where she also received her undergraduate degree. Both therapists draw from multiple evidence-based modalities tailored to meet the individual needs of each client.

Navigating Additional Resources
There are times when a community therapist may be a better fit, such as when more than 16 sessions are needed, a client’s needs are outside of our therapists’ expertise, or a therapist outside of Christ Church is desired. Alex and Amy can help identify and refer to local mental health providers when needed. They also can provide information regarding community resources, such as continuing care retirement communities, in-home care providers, in-patient and out-patient treatment facilities, substance use intervention specialists, and more. There is no charge for such referral services, and this referral offering is available to anyone whether they are Christ Church members or not.
